Monstera 'Peru', also known as Monstera karstenianum, is a distinctive and less common variety of Monstera known for its heavily textured, pinnate leaves that showcase a deep, rich green color. Unlike the more familiar Monstera deliciosa, 'Peru' does not develop fenestrations (holes in the leaves) but is prized for its unique leaf texture and compact growth habit, making it an intriguing addition to any indoor plant collection.

🌿 Botanical Name: Monstera sp. 'Peru' (often referred to as Monstera karstenianum, though this may not be its scientifically accepted name)

💧 Care Level: Moderate. Monstera 'Peru' requires some specific care conditions to thrive, similar to other Monsteras, but with particular attention to humidity and watering.

📏 Size: Typically grows to about 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 cm) in height and spread, though it can climb higher if given support.

☀️ Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions better than some other tropical plants but will grow best and maintain the vibrancy of its leaves with sufficient light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves.

💧 Water: Water when the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil has dried out. Monstera 'Peru' likes consistent moisture but is susceptible to overwatering and root rot, so ensure good drainage in the pot.

💦 Humidity: High humidity is preferred, ideally above 60%. This plant thrives in a more humid environment, which can be achieved through regular misting, using a humidifier, or placing it on a pebble tray with water.

🌡️ Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). It should be protected from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations, which can stress the plant.

🌱 Soil: A well-draining, aerated potting mix is ideal. Mixes designed for aroids, containing peat, perlite, and orchid bark, work well to provide the necessary drainage and support root health.

🌱 Fertilizing: Fertilize every 4 to 6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength. Reduce fertilization in the winter months.

🔄 Pruning: Pruning is generally not needed except to remove any yellow or damaged leaves. You can prune to control its size or shape if desired.

🍃 Pests and Diseases: Monstera 'Peru' can be susceptible to common houseplant pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Maintain proper care to keep the plant healthy and less prone to infestations.
